DALI BACK AT THE SUMMIT OF MDUBZ’ AFRO R’n’B SCENE
Over the years, we have had a lot of singers hit the limelight and fade, some after staying a while in the spotlight and some faded as soon as they made it.
One name has been of consistent relevance through it all though, and that Dali.
The singer has adapted and evolved through every phase in the industry since he came up as his skills and agility have proved he is a rare talent.
Dali has enjoyed a stellar career which has gone beyond the local scene having also broken through the west african market, gaining requests on Nigerian music channels as well as gaining airplays on Trace Africa as his smash hit single “Angellina” conquered the industry.
The singer took a break from active music after his contract with Bensam Entertainment run out but did not remain idol as the Afro R’n’B sensation released two Extended Playlists(EPs) in 2017 namely Genesi and Do Not Disturb(winter playlist) of which he said it gave him the opportunity to make music likes. He then went on to release singles like “Chivomelezi”, “Mama(mother’s day dedication)”, and “Punchu Punchu” among others.
These projects gained little recognition however but the artist said he never expected much from his fans but he got more international praise than local.
These projects seemed to sharpen Dali’s plans as he came back firing in 2018 with buzzing singles “Mwana(feat. Nepman)” and “No Campaign” which got him back into into the Afro R’n’B discussion and him missing out on an award nomination was questionable.
Dali also surprised many as he partnered with Lilongwe based producer Crack and Blantyre based video director, Andrew Chilonga.
“I started working with producer Crack while i was still under Bensam Ent, we just never had the chance to work as much. He’s been a versatile producer since day one and that’s what i love about him. His creativity goes beyond a genre.
Andrew Chilonga is a very sick videographers whose skills and work ethic deserve bigger recognition.” Dali on working with Crack and Andrew Chilonga.
“Working with Dali is the best thing that has happened to me so far in my video production career. I honestly enjoy every moment we spend, starting from ideas, gathering materials, until the whole thing is done. In short i would say he is the type of guy every director would want to work with.” Andrew Chilonga.
The singer’s vision, versatility and enginuity has paved the way for him to come out storming in 2019 with his singles “Kwacha(feat. Crispy MW and Martse), “Ghetto Story” and “7 days(feat. Crispy MW), taking him to the summit of the Afro R’n’B scene unchallenged.
